Jhirna Tourism Zone

Jhirna Zone

The Jhirna Tourism Zone is one of the most popular zones of Jim Corbett National Park, attracting wildlife lovers and nature enthusiasts throughout the year. Known for its rich biodiversity, the zone offers excellent opportunities for tiger sightings along with a wide variety of animals and birds. Safaris in Jhirna are conducted in two shifts daily—morning and afternoon—with a limited number of jeeps allowed to ensure a sustainable wildlife experience.

Location

The entry to Jhirna Zone is through the Dhela Gate, located about 15 km from Ramnagar. This gate also provides access to the Dhela Zone. As one of the newer tourism zones of Corbett, Jhirna has quickly risen in popularity and continues to draw more visitors each year. Entry is permitted only via registered Jeep Safaris, ensuring regulated access to the forest.

Major Attractions

A key highlight of Jhirna Zone is that it remains open to visitors all year round, unlike some other zones that close during monsoon. The zone is home to a diverse range of wildlife, from Asian elephants and Bengal tigers to a variety of deer and bird species. Birdwatchers especially enjoy spotting rare species, making Jhirna a paradise for ornithologists. Safari bookings can be made in advance through the official government website.

Flora & Fauna

Jhirna Zone is blessed with a mix of sal forests and expansive chaur grasslands, offering an ideal habitat for wildlife. Visitors may encounter Bengal tigers, wild elephants, sloth bears, deer, wild boars, and gharials. The zone also shelters reptiles such as Indian pythons, cobras, crocodiles, and several lizard species. Bird species like red junglefowl, eagles, and migratory birds further enhance the safari experience.

Night Stay in Jhirna Zone

For those who wish to immerse themselves fully in the wilderness, the Jhirna Forest Rest House (FRH) provides limited accommodation. Built deep inside the forest, this rest house offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, perfect for birdwatching and night-time wildlife experiences. Staying overnight here gives visitors a rare chance to experience the sounds and sights of Corbett after dark.
